I am a resident of California and I would like to buy a car from out of state.I would like to know what other states will collect sales tax for california when I buy a vehicle? I know that buying car from Texas, the car dealer will not require to collect sales tax from buyer for California states.

Every car I have bought out of state I have never had to pay any tax on until getting back home. Almost every insurance company covers you for 30 days as to allow you to purchase and get the vehicle back home before paying the tax at time of registration although always best to check first. Another thing I have done especially in FL since they will not issue a temporary tag until the tax is paid, is to use the previous owners plate until getting home and then mailing it back which only costs $8 for a flat rate envelope with cardboard on both sides to protect it and this option as well as one above covers you both legally and insurance wise.
