write down the code and go to or ring your local dealer service or parts desk and ask them. to say thankyou, you should take some brown bottles of suds to lubricate the tonsils of the person who helped you

The check engine light can't be permanently and properly turned off until the actual fault is located and fixed in the car, whether it's a true failure in the OBD-II emissions control system or a false indication caused by a bad computer for example. Some error codes are manufacturer specific and require a code scanner that can read the OBD-II "enhanced" codes. So an independent garage may not have the enhanced scanner capability that your car dealer's scanner has. An OBD-II code whose second character is a "1" rather than a "0" means that it's an enhanced manufacturer specific code like P1301 rather than the standard P0301 (example below link)http://www.troublecodes.net/articles/obd2explained.shtml
