I live in Michigan, and I drive a 06 Chevy Equinox that I bought last year. When I bought the car it came with a 39,000 mile warranty or to July 11th, 2009. I was going to take it in today, until the guy said they could inspect it for 99 dollars, and I was like well its under warranty and then he said they can't inspect any car under warranty unless something is wrong with it. How is it illegal for them to inspect the car when its under warranty? That just doesn't make sense to me.

It's not illegal for them to inspect it.With no obvious sign of it needing warranty work they need to charge for handling it and checking it over.
Compare it to going to the doctor for a checkup. He will charge for it with no problems present. |

It`s not illegal to inspect a car under warranty. But why should they do it for nothing? If there is nothing wrong with it and you just want it inspected, then you should pay for it. They are under no obligation to do any non warranty work for free. If you insist on having it checked out before your warranty expires , then pay for the service, or take it to another garage and pay them.
