30,000 no; maybe 300,000(because it is a Volkswagen)
Try changing the tires around(even include the spare). - or even change the air pressure and see if the sound changes. If the sound changes -tires. This is the easiest thing to check first. Some tires just "howl". & Cranking up the stereo does not hide the noise either. If noise does not change, try applying the park brake on lightly while you drive and see if the noise changes when the brake is applied on. Tells the mechanic something else But more than likely you got cheap bias ply tires with snow tread or cheap radials(or the tires are seperating) Go 5PSI above recommended air pressure. That should reduce noise(or 5 below..it is an experiment) which will not affect tire wear or road adhesion abilities in any measureable way and don't buy that brand or type of tire again. A more expensive radial would not give you this problem all the way around....such as a Michelin steel belt. If it twer a bearing went it would be like you were driving on the rims on a gravel road. |

your car is under 30k which mean it's still cover under warranty...stop guessing and bring it to a dealer and have it check out !!!

yes.. power train warranty which is different than bumper to bumper it covers anything that is lubricated and is usually 7years 70k miles depending on the year. but you may first have to agree on a diagnostic check which may show you agree to pay the fee if out of regular warranty, but if its covered so does the charge and you pay nothing.
good luck! call your local dealer for power train warranty time and miles for your year to verify first. |

It is possible, but there,s only one way to find out and thats to jack the car up and spin the wheel. If your car is within the warranty timescale it will be covered but if the car is 10 years old then it wont be covered.

A bearing usually sounds a good deal worse than you describe. This is one of those questions that is very difficult to answer without actually hearing the noise. If you are in UK and your car is less than 3 years old it would be covered by warranty. Again, it is possible for a bearing to go at any mileage as they are "bought in " by all car makers , indeed, it is likely that the bearings on the VW are the same as used by all German car makers.

Anything is possible, new cars breakdown. If the car is still in warranty then it probably would be covered.

It is possible but unlikely and unusual.
A bearing failing at that mileage would be covered by the warranty as it will be due to manufacturing defects. The whirring noise might be down to the tank fuel pump if one is fitted. It could be due to something rubbing on a rotating part as you drive along. On one of my cars all four wheels whirr as they have slotted and drilled discs - I kinda like it though don't know why! |
