Concept cars, are very good for transportation industry. For one it's always good to 'test the waters' a bit by watching public reaction to a concept vehicle. The Dodge Viper is a perfect example -- who the heck would have ever thought that a company like Dodge would ever produce a car with a monster V10 engine wrapped in exotic materials and racing chassis? Well, that's how it actually got started -- with a concept car. Reaction was so intense at the Auto Show that people were begging the folks at Dodge to take a $10K deposit -- on a vehicle that didn't even exist! Concepts also serve as a test bed for new building techniques, unconventional engines and daring styling.

In my opinion, there are concept cars that do get manufactured and sold in the market. It's just that for the ones which are not, it could be that the car manufacturers did not get a positive review for the design, etc. of their concept cars so they don't reproduce them. At least, not all.
