Chances are it is electronic, and you will need a piggy back ECU, or a reflash, to take it out. Check out a mitsubishi enthusiast forum, they will have exact details on such a procedure.

It is part of the ECU.Doing so will void your warranty.

Unless you plan on rebuilding, balancing and strengthening that motor you will certainly blow it up by raising the rev limiter. If you do plan on doing it right and still want more revs, you'll need a piggyback ECU and it will void your warranty ... even if you remove it before bringing it in
