Default Are there any harddrive MP3 players for cars?

If absolutely forced to, I will end up buying a 160gb iPod and some sort of mount for it. That is not the question, so please don't answer if an iPod or other portable mp3 player is your only solution.I'm looking for a 100gb-ish capacity hard drive based MP3 player for my car, to simply replace my stereo altogether. I found one, the dh-100ix, which was mysteriously discontinued very quickly, and cannot find a single other one that meets my criteria:100gb internal harddriveA good way of browsing through MP3sI wouldn't think this was that hard to find, but extensive googling has found absolutely nothing. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.Does such a thing exist? If so, is there some special term I need to search for? I've only ever seen reference to one player, from 2005, that met my criteria at all. The rest is people rigging up laptops to do this, even though it's clearly not a very difficult thing to develop.

The problem with HDD audio systems is HDDs don't take vibrations very well and corrupt data is a huge problem. When they get to huge solid state memory systems, it'll be THE thing, but until then, portable is about the only option.I have 2500+ songs on a 30Gb Creative Nomad Zen and it's not even 1/4 full. Don't get an iPod, too many problems.

There is the AVIC-Z2 which does have a built in 20Gb HDD, 10GB however, is taken up with maps for the nav. There is also a few Alpines on the market (Usually upwards of $400) which have USB ports, some have an 8GB limit, but I beleive the newer models have a much higher limit, but you would want to check out the alpine website and look at their media decks. The down side is that many of these decks don't incorporate CD or DVD players, so you are stuck with only digital media.http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=iDA-X001&lang=en&tab=DThe only issue I can see with using this deck, assuming it has a virtually "unlimited" HDD read capability would be suppling more than the available power to power the HDD, because the power provided is supposed to be used only for solid state memory. It probably wont have enough power to spin-up a drive, so you'd have to modify a usb hub and use the voltage regulator to supply a little more power to the HDD, but other than that, it MIGHT work.Best of Luck.

>a solution buuut maybe not the one.almost all car stereos today play mp3 musicas long as it is burned to disc that willll get u a lot of music but if you own a gross amount of music you will have the burden of all those cd cases floating around in your car under your seat. > then it's the option u donut want 2 hr. >another option you would have to look around for online, is you may want install a modified x-box and use that. it will hold and play your mp3..it also holds info unlike a deck does.basicly you use the hard drive off it. if you look around you can find one or someone that can modify one under two hundred.

100gb harddrive?...Realistically, good luck finding that. That's nearly unheardoff, but i'm going to look up the model number you mentioned just to see it. The largest size that is really out right now, if you look around, you can find it for about 1300-1400. it's made by pioneer and it's an indash navigation flat panel head unit. It's like a 7inch touch screen unit with 30gb harddrive. But, only 10gbs are dedicated towards strictly music, the rest is for navigational memory so you don't need disks. They have some regular sized head units take only usb hook up/auxiliary input, or this unit that alpine has out is strictly for ipod. there is no cd, their may not even be a radio, but i know it's strictly for the ipod. So good luck finding what your looking for. You just may have to get creative.
