I really need a car right now. I'd like to get a 2007 Dodge Caliber which cost 11,995 used and 12,223 with taxes. I have a down payment of 6,000.00 My credit is not so great. Should I give it a try?

Why not. You will just pay extra high interest but they will finance you just as soon as they squeeze every last dime from you for a down payment. You will also have better luck getting financed on a new one due to depriciation. Good luck and happy driving

yes i would, the one thing you got going for you is the down payment ,that's going to bring the price of the car way down on the finance amount,so yes i would try it,all they can say is no,but with a down payment of that size i don't think you,ll have that much of a problem, good luck with it.

Definitely. Car dealers are given incentives by finance companies to finance people. I have average credit and I have recently bought 2 cars. I tried to get pre-approved before I went and no one would, but the dealer got me approved each time. The interest rates are ok, but with your large down payment, you'll be fine. Btw, I really like the Caliber, it's a great car, good choice :-)

Yes, you should be ok. The reason is the down payment amount would show the bank or finance institution good faith on your part. That you are serious about buying and paying for this car.

With the car biz the way it is, they will welcome you.most people have no idea what their credit is,most people i've dealt with over the years think their credit is bad or just ok, they are usually fine.go ahead, you'll be okSenior finance manager

If you were to put $6,000 down on a vehicle that stickers for $11,995, you should be in good shape. Lenders look at things other than just your credit when determining an approval. A major factor is loan-to-value. In your case, you are putting 50% down, which basically means that in the event of a repo, the lender has a much less chance of loosing money if they had to send it to an auction.Your interest rate will probably be high, however this will help re-establish credit so the next vehicle purchase won't have such a high rate. Other things lenders will look at will be your job time and debt-to-income. I would suggest finding the Caliber you want and proceed to try to purchase it. Good luck!
