Default about the concept cars?

we all know that the purpose of concept cars is to show the dreams and car design skills of the automakers, and also to show us how beautiful cars can be.but does the idea of showing concept cars at auto shows make any sense nowadays?what is the point of showing concept cars if we know very well that they will never hit the road one day? i have a big love for concept cars but i want to see these "concept" cars drive one day in the streets or on the highways. when do you think we will ever see a manufacturer produce a whole generation of concept cars and let the people buy them and show them off on the road? do you think that these cars and too perfect and too good looking to be driven someday? will we ever drive these "concept cars" in the near future? please share your opinion.

It gives car makers a feel for what would be popular in the future. It is cheaper to make 1 car that flops than thousands that dont sell.

Some of these cars do make it into productionI remember seeing the Chevy Avalanche and SSR concepts. I've seen the Ford 500 as a concept. The Camaro that Chevy is showing now sill be available next fall.I hear the Dodge Challenger might go into productionOf course most of these concept cars never make it into production, and they were never intended to. They are built to show to the public future car designs and features. That's why they are called concept cars.

some of us do drive concept cars .. the dodge viper and ford gt where concept cars brought to life. .. the reason we dont see the concepts on the road is because they dont meet crash test required by the govt and those concepts we see on the turntable cost a few million bucks. there may also be parts on them too expensive to put on a reg production car...

Concept cars are mainly just for show. To show off what the manufacturers are "capable" of. This gives them great recognition in the public eye. Not to say that manufacturers have not turned concepts into reality. The Dodge Challenger is the latest to come to mind. The Viper is another. The show cars also serve as a gage to the public reaction to new ideas. So don't give up hope! The concepts can become reality!

Yeah, after going to the auto shows and being involved in the industry for over a decade, I agree, concept cars are not very interesting to me... no hope of ever driving one... but future features and designs do have to get tested and shown off somewhere.Over twenty years ago, I got to see the first working mock up of the handheld/portable/built-in GPS units we have available for cars today. It was the size of a small/beverage refrigerator, taking up the middle of a full size van, with wires running to a green screen near the passenger seat and up to the huge antenna on the roof. If they had shown that prototype at the autoshow, only the biggest geek engineers would have been interested... attendance in the dozens, rather than the tens of thousands for the glitzy painted sports concepts.Fine example of bait and switch with production capable concept cars is the Ford Fortynine concept of a few years ago... instead of that cool machine, we got the Ford Fivehundred on the street, and FoMoCo has just waved goodbye to even more marketshare. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. They did a decent job keeping the new Mustang close to the concept, but could have done better.
