Default Jeep Commander? A Good Car For Teens?

Do you think that a Jeep Commander is a good car for a teen driver?

Probably not. I do think it looks cool, but SUVs drive differently than cars and a young driver might not be mature enough to handle that...especially when speed is concerned. If you are looking at a Commander for safety, then you should look at a VW Passat (V-6). It has reliability and safety and will be a bit cheaper than the Commander. There's a lot of good cars for teens; just look at your own reasons before you buy. I hope this helped.

With exprierence a driver develops maturity (most of the time). Inexpierenced drivers do things that aren't safe because they haven't learned the limitations of what vehicles can do. If you give a teen a Porche and tell them to drive safe and not speed, 90% of the time that advice will be ignored. 30% of the time with tragic results. While the Commander is not a speed demon it does require knowledge on avoiding rollovers, knowing where the massive blind spots are, anticipating future problems to adjust brakeing distances, being curtious to other drivers in smaller cars and respecting peoples land (go anywhere capability). If your goal is safety I highly recommend a Volkswagon with a non-turbo 4 cylinder engine. Those engines are plenty powerful so getting a turbo or V6 is just an incentive to speed even further. Also those cars are built to take a punishment and keep the occupants safe.

Are you serious, no kid should have that car,and i hope your at least talking about a base model 6 cylinder, 2 wheel drive, otherwise that kids gonna kill himself, dont get me wrong I'm 19 and would kill for that car as would anybody in his right mind, but most people my age would just abuse it, i personally have driven a fully loaded one with the hemi, and no way would i let a new driver near that thing, its got way to much power.

It's more of a family car where you pile the kids in the back and take them to there Saturday sports events. My husband has one, I like the look of it, but the car has a lot of blind spots. My husband already has scratches on it because of the lack of vision. If you want a Jeep then I think the Jeep wrangler is a better choice for a teenager.

I would say NO! As soon as the teen leaves the house the first place he is going to try and find is a place to thrash it off-road, since its a Jeep. And the commander isn't really built for that, though Jeep says it is, ha ha. If you really want to get the a Jeep get a Wrangler or a Cherokee. They are easy to maintain, and this will allow the teen to learn some responsiblity. Will they still take it off-road, sure they will, their kids. But if they break then they will have to fix it, or find some way to get it unstuck, I learned the hard way. Or better yet go with the VW like the other suggested. VW's are always cool little cars, pretty safe, cheap, and they can do the tuner thing to most of them, but they still won't go that fast, unless you get the VR6.
