what is an A.I.R. system in a 2002 chevrolet avalanche?

A.I.R. system is secondary air injection, its like back in the 80s when they had air pumps on the cars. now days its an electric pump that kicks in at times to provide fresh air to the catalytic converter for lower emissions. however the 2002 avalanche isn't equipped with an A.I.R. system. If you think its causing a check engine light, the code for an inop air pump is P0410.
