along the bottom edges of the car. The auto shop man says it's a gravel protection application that's used on all Toyota Corollas. I've never seen anything like this before. Have you? Is this someting that really works, or am I being 'had.'?

i have heard of this. they put it on one of my cars when i got it repainted. it works very well. you will have far fewer stone chips on the side of your car.

I've seen it. I don't know how well it works , but I understand that its rubberized paint that resists parking lot dings, too.

Yeah it really works but it usually is matching on both sides of the car. You might want to make sure it is on both sides. Other wise and him to finish the job. (at his expense)

Sounds plausable -- normally paint chips first on the bottom of the door (it does on my car).Unless it looks really ugly, or else you are being charged extra for it, I don't see why you would not just leave it as is.
