is it ok to always use non-synthetic oil on turbo cars like the A6 audi 2.7T? thanks!?
It is definitely NOT ADVISABLE to use a non-synthetic motor oil in your 2.7T. In addition to risking a blown motor, you may also void any kind of warranty you might have. The root of the problem is that your turbo's are cooled by your motor oil and because they are driven by exhaust gases, they are extremely hot!! With a non-synthetic oil, the oil will break down too quickly from the added heat of the turbo. Due to this you could either change your "dino" oil much more frequently (easily 2-3x more frequently) or use the longer lasting fully synthetic oil. Also to help increase the longevity of your oil (and therefore your car's life) please consider that if you drive it even semi aggressively, it's recommended to use either a Turbo Timer, or let your engine run with minimum load on it for 5-15 minutes after a "spirited" drive.WHY: A Turbo Timer keeps your engine running (and therefore oil circulating) even after you remove your keys. Instead of a Turbo Timer you can also let your engine idle for 5-15 minutes after an aggressive run before you shut it off. Alternatively, you can take it really easy for the last 5 miles before reaching your destination. I do this and ensure my rpm's doesn't get much higher than 2k for the last mile or two before I get home. This allows oil to circulate and cool down. If you don't do this then as soon as you shut down your engine, the oil stops circulating and the oil left sitting in the turbo simply cooks and breaks down.HTH.
